Coeur d'Alene Elf on the Shelf

Saturday, November 29, 2025 through December 21, 2025

Did you hear the great news? Santa is sending a team of “Scout Elves” to Downtown Coeur d’Alene! Presented by STCU, the Coeur d’Alene Scout Elves will land in town to start a fun holiday scavenger hunt on Saturday, November 29, and Santa has asked them to scout every day through December 21. Just like all elves, these ones are sneaky and hide out in cups of hot cocoa, cozy boutique sweaters, and other silly places!  Keep your eyes peeled for one of the dozens of Coeur d’Alene Scout Elves hiding throughout the Downtown Corridor, and you could win prizes from Santa himself! 2026 American Legion Post 14 Oratorical Contest

Mark your calendars for Saturday, January 17, 2026 as three local High School students from the Coeur d'Alene area will compete against one another for an opportunity to win a $18,000 scholarship at the National Level competition in Hillsdale, Michigan.

The American Legion’s National Oratorical Contest challenges high school students to explore and understand the U.S. Constitution while developing confidence, leadership, and communication skills. Since 1938, the program has prepared young people for citizenship through critical thinking and public speaking, while producing notable alumni such as former Vice President Mike Pence, commentator Lou Dobbs, and presidential candidate Alan Keyes.

More than a scholarship competition, the contest is an inspiring experience that restores faith in the future of our democracy. Contestants gain a deeper appreciation for the Constitution and the responsibilities of American citizenship, while building integrity, advocacy skills, and respect for civic engagement. For many participants, it's not just about winning; it's about discovering their voice, strengthening their character, and carrying forward the legacy of American democracy.

This contest will be held at the American Legion Post 14 headquarters which is located at the Mountain Lakes Bible Church, 2215 N 7th Street, Coeur d'Alene, ID. from 1:00 to 5:00p.m. on Saturday, January 17, 2026. Please check back in periodically as we may adjust contest start times to accomodate varying factors.
